Knowledge is power

Language immersion volunteering

Language immersion is an integral part of volunteering with GVI. We believe that being able to speak the local language is essential to getting the most out of your experience abroad.

Whether you are volunteering on critical community development projects or joining one of our teaching programs, having a basic understanding of the local language allows you to make a deeper connection with the culture and community you are living and working in.

While all our programs offer an introduction to the local language to help you get around, in Costa Rica we offer Spanish language immersion courses as additions to our community development volunteer or internship projects. Depending on the duration of your project, the course will consist of 20, 40, or 80 hours of lessons with a native Spanish speaker.
