Program overview

Contribute to women’s rights and access to economic opportunities while building your skills and professional profile. Our gender equality internship in Nepal focuses on economic inclusion and women having agency over their health and well-being. Working with our partners, interns will run workshops on English, numeracy and life skills, as well as mentoring sessions for girls. We offer similar workshops and sessions for women’s groups to support their professional development. Some of the specialised skills you could cover include goal-setting, resume writing and vocational skills.

Interns on this gender equality program also design and deliver workshops on health-related topics that women have expressed a specific interest in. To date, interns have addressed sexual and reproductive health topics including maternal, prenatal and child health. You may also have the opportunity to raise awareness in the community about the prevalence of human trafficking, and how it affects women’s rights and social cohesion.

As an intern, you’re encouraged to develop and implement your own project which aligns to priorities identified by the community. After receiving information about your internship during initial orientation, you’ll meet with either the Project Coordinator or Program Manager who will offer further guidance on your activities. Based on current gaps or needs defined by the hub and the community, you’ll be able to design a project and share your ideas with the staff and other participants on base. Weekdays will be spent implementing your project at the base and onsite with our partners.
Each week you’ll have a check-in meeting with the Program Manager where you’ll receive support with completing the project and be able to share ideas. You’re also encouraged to attend regular meetings about the gender equality program. During your time on base, you may be assigned other leadership responsibilities, giving you an opportunity to hone your teamwork and coordination skills. At the end of your internship, you can present your project and results to the rest of the team.

When not working on your internship, you can spend your free time and weekends getting to know the surrounding area. Pokhara is home to the beautiful and tranquil Phewa and Begnas Lakes that you can explore by paddle boat. The Himalayan and Annapurna mountain ranges make a spectacular backdrop to the lakes. You can also visit the Devi’s Falls waterfall or the Gupteshwor Mahadev Cave.
